LIFE Program

recyclingVALUVOIL (LIFE 09 ENV/E)

This ambitious environmental demonstration project aims to revalue the waste vegetable oils used by anaerobic digestion technology. Once treated, these wastes and by-products are converted into biogas whose fate would be the production of thermoelectric energy.

To complete the zero waste cycle, the remainig organic components would be treated to becaome biofertilizers and biostimulants for plants and soils on one hand, and syngas to enhance the production of thermoelectric energy on the other.

The whole process is preceded by a study of economic and environmental viability. The project, coordinated by CARTIF and involving only Spanish partners, will continue until 2013 with a budget of over one million €.

RESCATAME (LIFE 08 ENV/E/000107)

ebn-rescatame-logo-okThe objective of this project is to achieve sustainable management of traffic in the city of Salamanca (Spain) through an extensive network of sensors, air quality, as well as prediction models. This shall be the definition of a new control strategy and urban traffic management (GCTU) based on prevention and control in real-time traffic flows that create episodes of acute pollution.

Cartif is the coordinator of this LIFE + project that has a budget of 2.5 million € and has launched in early 2010.

lifeOLIVEWASTE (LIFE 05/ ENV/E/000292)

Project imed at improving environmental management related to the waste of oil. Over the four years it has designed and built a demonstration plant for the comprehensive treatment and presentation of liqued and solid waste generated during the extraction process of virgin olive oil.

The results of this project, formally presented to the EC in May 2009, be the basis for the development of this technology in several Spanish regions (Andalusia and Extremadura) and Mediterranean countries like Greece.
